CHEERLEADERS NEW TO SJB!
See what SJB cheer is all about prior to committing to the season! Clinics will cover the fundamentals of cheerleading (motions, jumps) with some intro to stunts and tumbling.
$5 per clinic - cash only at the door
Clinics are open to any athlete aged 5-14, no experience necessary! These are two designated intro clinics for new cheerleaders more geared towards the fundamentals of cheerleading. These will take place on Tuesday, 4/14, and Wednesday, 4/15.
SJB cheerleading offers both sideline and competition programs. Any athlete planning to participate in the Fall 2026 competition season MUST attend at least three clinics.
Clinic time will be separated by age, determined as of 7/1/2026.
Ages 5-8: 6-7pm
Ages 9-14: 7-8:30pm

🏆 SJB Competition Cheer Program
Program Overview
Our Competition Cheer Program builds on the fundamentals taught in our Sideline Cheer program, with a strong focus on the competitive aspects of cheerleading.
Athletes perform a 2½-minute routine consisting of:
- Stunts
- Tumbling
- Jumps
- Dance
Teams are ranked against other programs while following AYC guidelines that emphasize:
- Teamwork
- Sportsmanship
- Accountability
- Discipline in a fun and focused environment
Since 2023, all SJB Competition Cheer teams have ranked in the Top 5 at AYC Nationals.
Competition Cheer is designed for athletes who are ready for a fast-paced, high-commitment experience. This program is significantly more intensive than Sideline Cheer and requires full dedication, focus, and attendance.
Age Divisions
- Open to athletes age 7+ (age determined as of July 1 of the current year)
- Teams are organized by age to align with Sideline divisions
- Team skill levels follow YCADA standards
- Final team placement and declared level are determined by coaches once teams are formed
Age groups may vary based on registration numbers and AYC guidelines.
Program Focus & Development
Competition Cheer emphasizes advanced skill-building with focus on:
- Age- and level-appropriate stunting, tumbling, and jumps
- Proper technique and skill execution
- Teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship
- Learning and perfecting a 2½-minute competition routine
Athletes are expected to demonstrate commitment, accountability, and a strong work ethic throughout the season.
Coaches & Volunteers
Our teams are led by dedicated volunteer coaches who are committed to maintaining a positive, structured, and encouraging environment.
All coaches are required to:
- Complete background checks
- Follow YCADA and AYC safety standards
- Adhere to league codes of conduct
Schedule & Commitment
Competition athletes are required to participate in both Sideline and Competition events.
Practices
- Typically 3–4 times per week (including sideline practice)
Game Days
- Weekend football games
Choreography
- Extended sessions (typically 3–4 days in August) to learn the competition routine
- Held in addition to the regular practice schedule
Competition Season
- Routine review begins in early October
- Season concludes (pending advancement) in early December
- Weekend competitions in addition to football games
- All competitions are local to NJ except Nationals
⚠️ Choreography and all events beginning in September are MANDATORY.
Practice schedules and attendance expectations will be communicated once teams are formed.
AYC Nationals
Pending placement at Big East Regionals in November, teams may advance to AYC Nationals in Kissimmee, Florida.
Nationals is a stay-to-play event typically held Tuesday–Saturday in early December and includes:
- Travel day
- Practice day
- Team bonding activities
- Two days of competition (pending finals advancement)
All National events are mandatory for qualifying teams.
Uniforms & Equipment
Provided by the Program:
- Game Uniform (top, bottom, bow)
- Competition Uniform (top and skirt)
Required from Families:
- White cheerleading shoes
- White no-show socks
- Black long-sleeve shirt and black leggings (may be worn under game uniform)
- Optional rain jacket (available for purchase)
- Silver briefs (purchased through SJB, worn under competition uniform)
Additional Anticipated Costs:
- Choreography
- Music and licensing
- Practice wear
- Competition bow
- Routine clean-up
- Competition entry fees
- Nationals travel expenses (approximately $2,000 per family if applicable)
Fundraising opportunities will be offered once the season begins.
Safety Guidelines
Athlete safety is our top priority. SJB follows YCADA progression and safety standards, including:
- No skills beyond age- or level-appropriate allowances
- “Perfection before progression” skill development
- Proper warm-ups and stretching
- Age-appropriate instruction at all times
Registration Information
Sideline and Competition Cheer register under the general cheer registration. Competition registration details will be provided closer to the season start.
Online registration includes:
- League fees
- AYF insurance
- Uniform costs (if applicable)
- Field access
- Administrative expenses
- Early registration is encouraged
- Late registration is accepted based on availability
- Payment plans or financial assistance may be offered

Code of Conduct
All participants, coaches, and spectators are expected to uphold a positive and respectful environment. Unsportsmanlike behavior or inappropriate conduct will not be tolerated.
